Professional Car-Polishing
It is impossible to miss any residue that gets stuck in every crevice a car’s body has.
The chalky look tells you the car or truck has been sloppily and quickly polished. You should read it if you wish for safe ride.
Before we go any futher with the process, we must determine the size of the clearning job before us. If the only particles are dust, then air blowing will remove 80 percent of it. For that work, a small pancake compressor using 110 volt is good. In case you unintentionally collide into something, you can prevent scratching the surface by buying an air blower that comes with a rubber tip.
Always make sure that you are not under the sun when you are giving your vehicle a detail by doing the job either inside a garage or under a carport. Your best bet is to detail inside if space allows since the wind outside if very likely to blow the dust back on it. The second step is buying tack rags. The advantage is that unlike some other types of products, the Surgical Blue brand will not leave a gluey scum, which makes it alright to use even though it looks very sleazy.
So is car polishing can be hard? Of course no! It’s ideal to unfold the tack rag so it’s puffy, approximately half an inch think covering just outside the surface of your hand. You can clean off 100% of the dust when you lightly wipe the car after it is finished. Pre-paint cleaning so you know they are the best. Make sure to let the work be done by the cloth. Allow it to glide without using pressure. You can clean it with a tack cloth in no time. Continue all the steps until the vehicle is thoroughly wiped. One good choice is the Dupont E-4144 Sontera polishing cloth, and it is also disposable. This will not scratch any type of surface but you should allow water wiping, polish application as well as removal just right.
If there is too much dirt on the surface after air blowing and using a tack cloth, then wet down some Sontera towels and wipe the surface clean. Tearing clothes into three or four pieces in an way that are damp and tack rags.
Squeeze the towels until all of the extra water is gone so that it will wash without leaving droplets on the car surface. Don’t let it drip during the squeexing process or you will be left with a messy finish. Similar technique is applied as with the tack rag, long strokes but flip the rag more frequently to the side that is clean.
If you wash your car by hand or take it to a car wash, your finish will sustain some scratches. You often do not notice the fine scratches that develop while cleaning with soap and water method but these lines are very much visible in low light. The Sontera cloths will pick up dirt easily when they are wet.
Until your project is finished, turn the cloths on a clean area at regular intervals. It may be necessary for you to use 3-6 sets of cloths. Folding them half an inch thick similar to the tack cloth is ideal and keeping wiping and turning to a fresh side til the cloth doesn’t pick up more dirt. When rinsing out your cloths, be sure to use clean water so you won’t scratch your car’s surface. After completely cleaning the car, make sure to tape off all moldings, gaps and emblems to prevent wax or polish from getting into the crevices and making it difficult to remove from these small areas. Gently place it on with your left hand allowing the fingers to guide it into position while the right hand assists. Do it in reverse if you happen to be left-handed.
One product that lasts only 1-2 days, and is not a wax at all, is the 3m 05990 hand Glaze. It is used for show work only, however, the finish it leaves is much better than that of a wax job. You can use any of the following application methods with your preferred choice of wax. In the refinishing playing we use this product because it has no silicone like rise which can contaminate a makeup shop with seek receptor problems.
Remember that this does not last as long as wax does and the excess is wiped of much easier than extra wax is. Put about a 50 cent piece of cleanser on the Sontera cloths. Apply the glaze with minimal pressure and you will see how simple it is for molding or emblems to get buildup in the cracks versus the taped areas.
Try to wipe this with the dry cloth till residue disappears. The paint will give off a beautiful reflection. 3M Finesse It part#5929 will remove any stubborn scratches or stains. If you are not experienced in power buffing, which may be a faster method, you should only use this material by hand. The same way for applying the other methods is repeated here. While it can be rubbed to an excellent sheen, you’ll still have to apply glaze at the end.
And, on the tires we utilize an item known as Forever Black, which can be found at the majority of vehicle parts shops. This item blackens wheels so they appear fresh yet it doesn’t leave them fake or shiny like a few items do. As paint requires cleansing beforehand so do tires. Using some of cloths previously utilised on the painted surface water wipe them down just time the treads.
If you really want your care to shine take the tires off and thoroughly clean the treads before moving on to the next part. No detail is too small for attention, and just one example is that for a show, after detailing the tires, we wrap them in plastic and once the car is unveiled at the show, we cut the plastic away so every groove of the tire treads are perfect. Tire gel should be put on in an even surface with a foam block applicator given the porous nature of tires. Residue should be removed by wiping with a dry cloth. If it is required you can touch it up.
These are the ways to succeed. Working steadily, it will take about 2 hours to achieve this on a typical vehicle. If you demand nothing but the best, this is worth it.
